Frequently Asked Questions

1. How can therapy help me?

Therapy can be incredibly helpful in a number of ways, and how it helps will depend on your unique needs and goals. At its core, therapy is a space where you can explore your thoughts, emotions, and experiences in a safe and non-judgmental environment. It's a place where you can make sense of what you're going through and gain a deeper understanding of yourself. Therapy promotes increased self-awareness, emotional support, tools for coping, personal growth, and improved relationships. Ultimately, therapy is a collaborative process where you and I will work together to identify what's going on, set goals, and develop a path forward. If you're curious about how therapy might specifically help you, I’d be happy to explore that further together. Everyone’s journey is unique, and I'm here to help guide you in whatever direction feels right for you.

2. How long does therapy last?

Therapy is tailored to the individual, so the length of time a person spends in therapy depends on the presenting issue and how quickly they feel relief from symptoms. In general, most goals are met between 12 and 20 sessions. However, some people meet their goals quicker and discharge earlier, and others need more time. We will monitor your progress along the way and communicate about how it's going.

3. How often will we meet?

At our initial appointment we will discuss the frequency of our sessions. Typically, individuals meet on a weekly basis in the beginning, and as progress is made we reevaluate the frequency of sessions based on need.

4. Is what I share kept private?

Yes, I take privacy very seriously. By law, I'm required to follow The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), which contains a privacy rule to protect individuals' medical records and personal health information, including information about psychotherapy and mental health. We will go over Privacy Practices at the first appointment.

5. Do you accept insurance?

I currently accept BCBS and Aetna. If you have another insurance I can provide you with an itemized receipt (or "superbill") for your insurance company for reimbursement through your out-of-network therapy benefits.
