About Me
My Therapy Style
When I’m with a client I think of how I’d like to be treated. I recognize and truly respect the courage it takes to talk with a therapist. I want my clients to feel welcome, supported, and understood. I take a person-centered approach to therapy. Meaning, I meet my client where they are, I listen without judgment and I acknowledge the client’s unique experience. I’m here to facilitate your self-discovery, self-acceptance, and to provide a means toward healing and growth.
I mostly utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) because it is one of the most well-researched and effective therapeutic approaches, and it’s helpful for a wide range of issues due to its focus on the connection between your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. CBT is particularly helpful for people who want to actively participate in their healing process and are looking for a structured, practical way to improve their mental health. Whether you're struggling with anxiety, depression, or just wanting to develop healthier thinking patterns, CBT can give you the tools to make lasting changes. CBT helps you recognize and challenge negative or unhelpful thought patterns—things like self-doubt, all-or-nothing thinking, or catastrophic thinking—that may be fueling your emotional distress. By changing these patterns, you can start to feel more empowered and in control of your reactions to life’s challenges.
My Background
I’ve worked in the mental health field for over 15 years. I'm naturally interested in understanding the way the mind works, which is why I studied psychology as an undergraduate. I earned my BA from Indiana University in 2005. I’ve also always been drawn to helping others, and knew I wanted a career in which I could combine my interests. I went on to pursue my Masters in Social Work at Washington University in St. Louis, and graduated in 2007. Even though I've been in the field for several years, I value continuing to learn and consider myself a lifelong learner. I diligently try to stay up on the latest research, and pursue continuing education so I can be of the most help to my clients. Throughout my career, I’ve worked in a variety of settings including an inpatient psychiatric hospital, outpatient therapy, community mental health, and school-based therapy. I’ve learned a great deal from each experience and appreciate that it has led me to private practice.
